Baby Sparkle: Things That Go

Published by Dorling Kindersley, 2015.

Forms of transport are the focus of this rhyming board book. Each double page features a different vehicle. There’s text on the left hand page and the corresponding image on the right. The pictures are photographs and include a tractor, an aeroplane, a train, a boat, a car and a truck. I really like the inclusion of onomatopoeic words, in particular the ‘Clickety-clack! Clickety-clack!’ for the steam train.

What sets this series of books apart from some other baby books is its use of glitter. The left hand pages are decorated with glittery patterns and shapes. These pages glisten and sparkle when they catch the light and this makes them very appealing to young babies with developing eyesight. There’s a lovely tactile element to this use of glitter too; the sparkly stripes, spots and stars are fun to touch.

My son loves this book and he returns to it time and time again.
