Baby Sparkle: First Words

image

Published by Dorling Kindersley, 2015.

Your baby is introduced to their first words in this rhyming board book. Each double page focuses on one particular word. There’s text on the left hand page and a corresponding image on the right. The text encourages discussion and engagement as it always begins with ‘What’s that? Tell me.’ The pictures are photographs and the first words that have been chosen are items that your baby will be familiar with from their daily routine, for example, a ball, a bowl and spoon, a hat and a teddy.

What sets this book apart from some other baby books is its use of glitter. The left hand pages are decorated with glittery stripes or polka dots, sometimes sparkly stars. The pages glisten and sparkle when they catch the light and this is very appealing to young babies with developing eyesight. There’s a lovely tactile element to this use of glitter too. As you run your fingers across the pages, you notice that the stripes, dots and stars are slightly bumpy and not as smooth as the rest of the page.
